Ingredient: Organic Erythritol
I've been asked for sugar-free chocolate cakes and experimented with a sugar alcohol, Erythritol. It is found naturally in plants, unlike artificial sweeteners. Not only does it have zero calories and zero glycemic index (does not cause blood sugar to rise), it is also an antioxidant that helps to fight free radicals.
There are two sides to the coin, though. Some people experience digestive issues when consuming erythritol in certain quantities. Consuming it regularly may also allow your body to adjust to it and, eventually, still cause your blood sugar to rise.
Erythritol was described as 70% as sweet as sugar but I've found it to be even sweeter than the organic coconut sugar I usually use. It also lacked a deeper flavour, tasted rather "flat", and left a mild aftertaste at the back of my mouth.
Of course, if you need/want to celebrate without sugar of any sort, know that you have choices. I believe in the power of knowledge, and I want to give you that power.

P.S. Coconut sugar has a glycemic index of 35, which is actually low enough for most people.
